so @jkap's post made me finally actually look into fastmail and it turns out it's 3$ not 15$ a month like I somehow thought

so now I'm getting serious about email. because i figure I lose significantly more than 3$/mo from things getting eaten or buried in gmail because I can't have multiple inboxes/folders without a lot of hassle.

Edit: 5$ if you want The Good Stuff, 7 or something, i dont remember, if you need like, Professional

And that if people actually need to reach me, they can easily follow the permanent vacation responder to the new account

fastmail is so good! please give it a shot!! and if you like having a custom domain, you can use that on the higher plans. using a custom domain gives you infinite email addresses! i'm *@wavebeem.com which is great if i want to segment who emails me. like i use pkmn@wavebeem.com for my pkmn.help emails and tag them based on that

checking here, it looks like I get a pretty tiny small account credit each moth you're subscribed for a year, you get 10% off your first year. It seems a bit less good of a perk than it used to be.

Here's the link it gave me if you feel like using it, but it's honestly not a big deal if you do or don't: https://ref.fm/u27802784

it costs more but we strongly suggest using email with a domain you own, so that you can change who the email provider is in the future without it being disruptive

(just don't forget to treat the registrar and the DNS as part of the attack surface - email is among the highest-value kind of accounts to compromise since everything else gets tied to it)
