im 22, born in 2001. when i was much younger i insisted that i was a millenial more than gen z because i remated to those experiences more, which i have since understood to be mostly due to the poverty of my youth limiting my access to the new technologies that defined many of my peers' relationship to the world. ive since accepted that i am part of gen z, but that being said, i do still think that gen z is, like, split in two. my younger sister, who is only six-ish years younger than me (late '06) acts a lot more like gen α than i ever have. some of the things she says and experiences she has are incomprehensible to me. it feels like culture and technology have been changing so fucking fast that the first ~half of gen z ('97-mid '00s) is its own thing, distinct from both millenials and the second half of gen z (mid '00s-mid '10s) but moreso the former.
