Looking at the new discord font and the not-so-recent YT layot makes me feel like UI people have some sort of quota to meet or else they get fired. Basically everything is just changing for the worse and we can agree on that

Patreon is like the king of this, literally threw out their logo for some ugly garbage completely out of nowhere and then moved their post button like every day for the next 4 years
To be fair, this has been a theme for a very long time. "Slow, creeping UI changes that diminish usability for some false sense of aesthetic improvement" has been a thing for as long as the internet has been commercial (as long as .com has been dominant, effectively)
