Audra was always so much taller than me, and her family was taller than everyone, in a tall house they built for their tall selves. So it was natural that she would be Luigi and I would be Mario, despite my own preference for Luigi over his brother. I don't think I ever wore those overalls again. The next year we were going to go as "Death" and "Life," costumes which involved black robes and white robes, but Audra got in trouble and got grounded on Halloween. I was upset, but my mom placated me by taking me to see The Nightmare Before Christmas, which had just come out. Tender lumplings everywhere.
