For enrichment in my enclosure in 2020, where I left the house less than 10 times, I think, I tried getting a number of windowsill vegetable or herb kits. My apartment gets approximately an hour and a half of direct sunlight a day so they absolutely all failed to thrive. Getting a grow light didn't help. But what DID help is when I got an Aerogarden.
I would not recommend an Aerogarden if you're looking for a way to be frugal and grow your own food. If you are looking for a fun thing to fuss over every day while you are very very indoors, though, it's great! I did like three or four gardens with it. I grew a pretty good amount of tomatoes and hot peppers, which was very exciting for me. I grew some SPICY mini jalapenos, to my delight. I also grew way way way way more basil than I EVER could use, especially as someone who doesn't like pesto. I grew lettuces! The original salad era, eating my lettuces.
But I could never NEVER fucking grow any mint. Mint, which will take over any garden anywhere, refused to grow at all over all my attempts. As my friend @drmoonpants said: mint only grows when it's incoveneint.
I got tired of the Aerogarden earlier this year and sold it to a friend, and now in that place is the pebble ice machine that I got for my birthday, which provides even more enrichment in my enclosure.
