I'm not knocking anyone who gets something out of bluesky that they want but to me it's like... if you asked me today if I'd be interested in joining Twitter all over again... like... no. Absolutely not. That's ridiculous. Of course not. Lmao. No. Like you might as well ask me if I'd rather relive college. I got a lot out of the experience but no I do not want to go back I have built a very good life since then and I don't need to invite all that stress back into my life I'm a grown up now and I've already done my time.
Yeah despite the tenor of my thread trying to figure out their moderation strategy I'm not actually MAD at anyone for going to Bluesky. If that's where your friends are, if that's the vibe you're comfortable with, if this is the kind of posting you want to do: fill your boots, with my blessings. I've seen a lot of porn artists promoting their accounts there, and while it'd certainly be convenient for me if more of them would set up shop here, I'm much happier knowing that they're establishing lifeboats ANYWHERE to prepare against the event that Twitter suddenly goes offline.
That said, I do find it a bit baffling. I think Twitter's extremely public decline offered those of us who've used it gor years a convenient opportunity to examine our relationship to social networks. What works, what doesn't, what we want for the future. Every time I've looked at Bluesky the vibe has been... regressive. As though every person there is yearning for the heady halcyon days of pre-Gamergate Twitter. I get it. I'd like to be in my 20s again too, if for no other reason than to clear up my lower back problems. But it's all a bit pathetic, isn't it? Like, it's almost historical reenactment, or a mass coordinated midlife crisis.
