mmmm want to get a tattoo while I'm here for reasons and they quoted me $160 for a teeny tiny TEENY, TINY tattoo that will literally take four minutes TEN AT THE MOST, and I had to talk to a receptionist who was literally next to the tattoo artist, who wouldn't speak to me, and he was just standing there directly behind this stupid wall. Bad vibes, no thanks, wtf is that cost?? Y'all booking at $1000/h???

Honestly, there is typically a 1h (sometimes 30m) limit for a reason. Stuff like set up and tear down (disinfect everything before/after, get supplies, set up the stencil, size it for you, place it, etc), as well as costs for disposables (many tattoo machines have disposable needles for sanitary reasons, all the wrap and towels and ink cups). Those don't get counted in the billable hours, but take up time and materials they could be billing for other clients. They cost the same time and money for a 1 minute or 5 hour tattoo session.

If they were assholes, that's totally a reason to never go back. Trust your gut on that. But minimums are very much a normal thing, and shops that skimp on that are usually cheap in other, not great ways.

I appreciate that. If it's a 30m minimum then that puts them at a minimum $240 hourly which is extremely not bad, they said it was $120 min but mine would be $160 which I couldn't square. Maybe I shouldn't quibble over forty bucks, but regardless, the vibes were Off and I'd rather get tattooed by a woman that some dude who's hiding behind a wall, lmao

Yup. Reading your post, the vibes part was the only one that struck me wrong. The rest of the stuff are things that sort of "get rounded into" larger pieces, but are a way bigger slice of the pie for tiny pieces.

Good luck finding a new artist/studio, I hope you find one that fits for you!
