@wiggles

social media kinda evil

@wiggles

at some point i stopped being interested in sites where everyone has A Take about whatever they view as the issue of the day. quote tweets and performative outrage feel so hollow to me, but also like such a catastrophic waste of time. i used to think the knowledge that the world is messed up was valuable and useful on its own. lately it seems more like the knowledge drains and damages me with little benefit

whenever i think of making a post these days i ask myself if i’d be adding anything to the conversation or if i’d just be constructing a public persona… i don’t post very often as a result

but i also miss the sort of connections and easy socialization that comes with social media… i made a lotta friends off twitter and i mourn losing that sort of thing. i dunno. i dunno

It's still possible to talk about small things and nice things and interests, sans the hot takes part of internet culture, and to make friends and communities but just talking about fun stuff and seeing how everyone's doing

This… thread (?) truly hits a lot of good points. I’m trying to get back into the habit of inane posting, of just celebrating small things again and if I have to Construct A Public Persona, maybe it can be a positive one.
