why spend $25 on peak design quick releases when you can use a free 57 year old camera strap instead
and it's sorta terrible!
So I had a problem, on a job shoot I might be taking photos then switch to taking video repeatedly. I like to use a neck strap, but I also use a gimbal. Taking the strap off takes forever, keeping it on risks it getting tied up.
Instead of being a normal person and waste money on an actual solution to this non-problem, I instead attached the neck strap which came with a free and broken Topcon Wink Mirror S I was given. I've been using it for 4 months now, here are my thoughts.
It's more comfortable than the strap that came with my camera, and MUCH more comfortable than the strap I've used since 2021 (it was awarded to me, weird reason to keep wearing it in hindsight). One neat perk is the latches can rotate freely, meaning it will never be twisted. Overall, it's great for what it needs to be and super convenient for switching between photo/video. So why does it sorta suck? The latches.
The latches are too big, which makes them prone to getting stuck between your hand and the camera. It's worse when the screen is flipped out. I did add larger split rings to help with this, but the feeling is still weird. Two large hunks of cold metal against my skin is not the sort of sensory experience I want. Every photoshoot I've done this year has been with this strap, I don't know why I've put up with it. Comfort? Novelty? The 1960s material quality? Probably all three, I'll definitely be using it when summer jobs come around.
Idk what the point of this post was so, yeah.
