Analogue Pocket works some kind of witchcraft with its absurdly high resolution screen. The little thing is barely 3 inches across, but puts out such a dense dot-pitch that these funky screen filters actually convincingly look like the real thing when in use. Those interested have probably already seen how Pocket handles the likes of Game Boy games; I was largely interested in what the Analogue team had in store for Cartridge Adapter No.4: TurboGrafx 16/PC Engine HuCARDs. And the first HuCARD game I had to hand (that was not golf): THE Kung Fu, known in the West as China Warrior, a fine addition to what Hardcore Gaming 101's Xerxes has dubbed the "you're huge, and you have to dodge stuff" genre.
I busted out my silly clip-on macro lens for these close-ups; these are the screen filters available when playing a HuCARD game on Pocket. I am particularly fond of the PC Engine LT one, though the TurboExpress one is surprisingly nostalgic for something I've literally never used before in my life. It reminds me of those old flip-out panels on late-90s camcorders. I'd never try to play an entire game that way, but maybe it'd add some neat grit to Devil's Crush. (if I ever wind up having a copy of that...then again, that last OS update did enable support for screen filters in OpenFPGA...)
