While it comes tragically close to averting course, We're All Going to the World's Fair is yet another entry which crash lands into "people have hobbies on the internet that makes them fucked up sickos" territory. Despite having some of the most careful and tender indie twee sensibilities I've seen in a while, this film cannot couch its incorrect and misguided ideas about the internet being an innately alienating force and of what kind of aesthetic forms actually exist on the internet. Almost every fake YouTube clip rules but they're all weighed down by being of a wrong or non-existent era of online culture. I think this movie really wanted to present a normal drama that happens to be online, but lacks the sympathy and expertise to deliver this on the screen. Knowing people on the internet is not inherently voyeuristic!! Love in winter.
