but it turned out to be an adult robin redbreast. But I went and looked up robin calls, and learned that it was a distress call after all, it's the call robins make when they see a bird of prey. So I looked out the window just in time to see a hawk flying away across the valley. So anyway I think I'm into bird calls and birdwatching now
