At this time of year, clumps of mushrooms sprout up here and there on the grass verges on my road. They are really ugly mushrooms. They look like someone tried to make ice cream cones out of seaweed. No gnome could live in them.
I think they might be Winter Chanterelles, but they look much wetter and browner than in these pictures. This says they're edible but probably you shouldn't eat things you find at the side of pavements where lots of people walk dogs.
I like them anyway. Weird little surprise creatures for you, every autumn.
