I may sound like a broken record at this point, but... this marks the 29th year for the Interactive Fiction Competition (aka. IFComp), a competition focused entirely on the wonderful world of interactive fiction. Twenty-nine years. Man, that's a lot of choose-your-own-adventure tales! Oh, and this year will be adding to an already ridiculously large library, as IFComp 2023 recently opened its doors.
Do this! It's fun! I entered IFComp in 2020 and got some really kind and warm feedback, and I'm hoping to enter again this year!
Definitely read the read more here, because it points out some rules that always trip a couple of people up. Something else to spell out is that whatever you enter has got to be brand-new and never released to the public before. That stops people doing what happens in itch.io game jams all the time, just entering an old game into whatever to get people to look at it. But it also means that when you want to get your game tested, you can't just post the game file to a public forum and ask people to play it, because that counts as a public release. This catches people out every year, and it's always tragic. (But you can ask for help on a public forum and then send individual people the game file by email or private message - that's what we do on the IntFiction forum!)
