I've been playing Tunic for the last couple of weeks. I want to talk about it, but as a Tunicwilds game, it can't be talked about much without ruining a lot of cool things. I really loved this game, way more than I was expecting to as someone who isn't really a Soulslike enjoyer. I'm pleased with myself that I managed to get by on the default difficulty settings and never died more than five times in a row to a boss. The second half is far stronger than the first half in my opinion. Really good game the whole way through, though.
More spoilery thoughts on the back half of the game
Oh those puzzles are fantastic. Realising where the Holy Cross is was a very special moment - absolutely brilliant idea.Loved the cypher too, big fan of a language puzzle. My break-in for solving it - apart from the handwritten hints on the memo page - was realising that the ghost by the well is saying "well, well, well!"
Absolutely adored finding the Golden Path, especially when I worked out what was happening with page 9. I wish it was a little more obvious what conditions you need to meet before the game accepts your Path solution. I had to go away, do something else, then try again on a whim, and I don't know what I did to make it work that time.
Managed to get to the Wisdom ending and find all the fairies and most of the treasures without hints. I needed one hint for the treasure with the riddle, and I think I should have got that one without the hint, really, considering I can do cryptic crosswords. I needed a couple more hints for the glyph tower, because I completely whiffed the solution and got every single input wrong. Embarrassing. Cool reward for solving it, though. Much to consider.
Here's something fun I noticed when I was looking through someone else's translated manual (not doing all that myself). Other than their eyes appearing in the maps, I don't think the shopkeeper is never acknowledged in the manual. Are they even supposed to be part of this world? Maybe they are in the manual, but by a different name? What are they?
