i'm imagining a world where people talk about competitive chess the same way they talk about competitive pokemon and smash
it's fucking stupid when someone challenges me to a game of chess and they bring out a fucking clock. like, the game CLEARLY wasn't designed for that sort of play, it was made for me to take 10 minutes to decide on what pawn to move
"competitive players" making shit like "openings" and "strategies," it's bullshit. Karin said that if I want to win by starting the round by moving the pawn guarding the king, I can, and they're all elitists for telling me that's a bad idea
i just don't get why competitive players don't just go play football if they want to play a real competitive game. chess was a casual boardgame first and foremost, and they had to suck the fun out of it with their rulesets
i think we can all agree that castling is a bad gimmick mechanic that centralizes the game around it. the london is obviously pushed but maybe without castling there would be a chance for players who aren't meta slaves
the FIDEheads think the queen is the most powerful piece and are sooo scared of it meanwhile in chaturanga-- the ORIGINAL version of chess-- it's not even used that often. just goes to show how if they had their way, FIDEheads would ban pieces until all thats left is the kings
