God DAMN it sucks that Conceptart.org isn't just dead but GONE. The sheer amount of work and documentation, tutorials, examples of people who are huge names in the industry now just finding their feet etc. that's vanished is truly upsetting. It was kind of a mess towards the end but Wayback only has fragmentary captures and that sucks.

Yeah, for real. I was the moderator for Creature of the Week for like 3 years and that competition was so important for me learning and figuring out my artistic voice, meeting folks who were heroes for me at the time who are closer to peers, now. Now I can't find almost any of the incredible work from that run. The entire thing just being nuked had/has me really in my feelings.

Yoooo you were the COW mod??? All my respect, the COW/CHOW stuff was like a religious weekly read for me as a kid - I never got up the gumption to participate but it was my obsession for years regardless haha. It very profoundly influenced my own approach to design seeing so many people's processes on show and it's crazy how many of those names pop up again lol (I think i'm the one person who remembers when Dave Rapoza was one member of "The Howling Loveboys" in Team CHOW lmao)

That's wicked to hear. Yeah, I did split duty with another artist named Clark Miller from like 2010-2013. And yeah, those competitions were so cool to see for just getting exposed to these wildly skilled folks in process, and looking at folks like Dave Rapoza and and Alex Konstad coming up from people just figuring out their process to getting just so so good. I remember seeing the names coming outta that Team ChOW and those were some incredibly skilled crews comin together.
