Oh god don't torment me with this choice..... It's tricky because I actually HAD this experience, and with a game series that sat exactly between "cult classic" and "free rein to fuck around with it as much as you like" and I think that's the sweet spot. If I said something crazy like "Let me make the 1999 Castlevania title" it'd be so deeply restrictive, even as enticing as that sounds, but I also want to pick something that genuinely inspires me rather than just grabbing a genuinely forgotten title with little to recommend it just because it can become a platform for what is essentially an original game.
I think.... I think if the understanding was that it was a new title within what was essentially an anthology series rather than a direct sequel to either of them, i'd love to head up either a Maken X revival or do a new Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner game. DDS especially is one of the games closest to my heart and which I feel has enormous potential conceptually for a revisit - even if I was forced to remain within the existing setting and make some kind of weird interquel or etc. i'd kill to make a character action rpg hybrid where you play as Jenna Angel during the escape of the Four Angels/Indrajit and have a bunch of weird Harihara formshifts and some crazy Atma Avatar bosses (DDS fans will know why I love Jenna...). It'd be so deeply indulgent.
