New keyboard get1 and the initial reaction— well the INITIAL reaction is "I didn't want to give Razer my money "2 but secondly, oops! oopsie! my old keyboard's Enter key was two rows tall, so my muscle memory is trained to aim for the center of two rows. Nobody has hit \ after Enter as consistently as I am doing it right now.
- Strictly speaking the old one hadn't actually died, but the spacebar created a nonconsensual Homestuck typing quirk by ignoring a random selection of my keypresses. It was also LOUD which is not great when the user regularly does their typing during "but wouldn't it be cool if we were all quiet now" hours.
- The employee helping me browse/research keyboards on the fly was clearly a very competent PC gamer because when I noticed the only test board I'd liked said Razer on it, we had a brief back and forth to agree that Razer quality is fine it's just not good for its price point. I compared it to Alienware. He nodded regrefully, radiating understanding. A pox upon all brands that price like they're GOOD when they're actually just OKAY + FESTOONED IN RAINBOW LEDs.
