The funniest dino I did not tame in year 1 was the Stormymimus, despite the game deciding to Storm two days in a row. Both were the pattern I didn't want; more hilariously, the second Storm day was the day I went "noooo I need that one too" at Nazznyst (desmato #4) and on the final loop of my checking discovered Doeshimal (UR centro). It was almost a three-dino day. There but by the grace of RNG go I.
Farmsim Progress:
I set up my first 9x9 field and staffed it with little guys from the forest! And then spent the rest of the year cycling 4x4 sub-fields of Garlic & Rhubarb (both 4 day crops, perfectly trading off Sticky and Firm) so that the little guys could practice, and also I could manually water the fields one sub-field at a time with Snoelona because no water bowl tech yet. WEH. This was pretty mediocre money, not helped by me spending myself broke because I decided to decorate my farm during year 1. Who does that??? I didn't even have the Broom, and yes I regretted it.
Next to that I set up two 5x5 manual fields and turnip'd the hell out of them. This was better money, but it wasn't much field and I kept baking all the turnips and forgetting to sell the pancakes, so I go into year 2 with a wallet I would describe as "well, dino kibble is not a problem, but I'm not sure I can afford seeds AND decorations at the same time."
Over in the desert zone I planned a 9x9 field, but started very late and initially planted 5x5, so right now a single slowpoke dimetrodon is barely managing 5 carrot seeds per day. That might not get fixed until nearly Jurassos since I committed to some looooong-term crops in it. But I probably need to bring Syhr and Caep on walkies until then anyways, a 9x9 staffed by only three little dudes is uhhhh a choice. (I have come to the position that hoarding coelophysis was a gigabrain professional-tier minmax play, actually, and I wish those guys were here. So they'd do all my crops for me.)
Story Progresss:
My original save was so fresh in my mind that I deprioritized main story progress for quite awhile this go. It wasn't until the last week of Cretumnus that I got out an artifact map and started clearing them out half a zone per day– nowhere near done, but finally doing that after most of a year deliberately making eye contact with potsherds, whispering "no :)" and walking away.
Conversely I went "oh right, bulletin board requests are great!" and piled on those early on. The "Relaxed" day length setting was a major leg up in this regard, but it was on purpose so I wouldn't get friendship-gated. Unlike before. The helpfulness of this has varied because now quests can get stuck on things like "you have Cauliflower just lying around, right?" but I'm progressing!
I did get Orani to like me so much she'll sell me the full Ariacotta outfits though. Praise!
Other:
The "leveling my dinos is a kind of Bar Go Up" brainrot has consumed me. LibreOffice Calc will even let me color-code levels along a gradient! I have never been happier. Loosely prioritizing leveling along FIFO lines but of course it's easier to get a Sprinter to 20 than it is a Smasher or Stomper, so there's been some slightly hilarious stalling. The four(!!) desmato. have only made this easier. We'll see if I keep it up though.
