The thing nobody told me back when is that sometimes– I cannot promise I know how common it is– sometimes there's a stage of your artistic growth where you become a fan of your own output. A step past "there, I made something and it's not bad" satisfaction lies looking forward to seeing what you make, hoping there will be more simply because you want to enjoy it the same way you hope your favorite writer will update their fanfic or your favorite artist will post another illustration.

This does not hinder one's capacity to critique their own work, or spot errors, or be dismayed when the process is going poorly. It's not that you're suddenly blind to your work's flaws. It's that you love and value it so much that you nevertheless crave more.

ive somehow managed to be like this for all of my writing, something about it is different in my brain than visual art. like writing is just putting down all the stuff i want to read on a page that i can come back and read later it's great everyone should do this
