Mammals I correctly assumed there are a lot of species of:

rodents
shrews/moles

Mammals I correctly assumed are middle-of-the-pack numerous, species-wise:

Carnivora
Ungulates (and thus cetaceans too)

Mammals I was not prepared to find out the astronomical species count of:

Bats
