last year the San Francisco Giants traded Darin Ruf to the Mets mid-season for several minor-league players. Ruf played 28 games with the Mets, hit .152, got cut during the off-season, signed a minor-league deal with the Giants, and has now ended up back on our major-league roster
not only did the Mets give us the aforementioned several minor-league players for nothing, those 28 games Ruf played in were also some of the worst of his career; Baseball-Reference estimates that he contributed one loss to the Mets' season over those 28 games compared to a replacement-level player, which is a fairly astonishing level of suck. also I think the Mets may still be paying at least some of his salary.
