they're pretty intentional but they have the feel of being movement tech as top level players are deciding to move up or down on their board
i just mean like, when the original game was being developed, it wasn't really a move they'd considered (i think? you certainly don't get points for it in anything but the cooler implementations of tetris, at least. either way take my words with a grain of salt)
ohhh gotcha you're almost definitely right there - I read "competitive meta" and thought of just the games where it's rewarded
