That's like, 10-20 AAA studio teams, or 30-50 AA/III. Like if EA or Rockstar shut its doors. Hell, you could build a new EA hiring all the workers from these layoffs. This is staggering. In any other industry this would be a cause for alarm, think pieces from the national press, etc. Especially after a year of making ~$320 billion in profit. Its baffling how this is not being covered and known in the mainstream media.

not to nitpick but revenue != profit. it's entirely possible that the industry as a whole could be eating a shitton of losses while also seeing a huge surge in revenue.
granted, said industry is still absolutely generating scads of profit and there's no excuse for any of the exploitative, monopolistic shit that the major players do, but...
