Like, recently I learned that newer JS runtimes have the fetch() API, which was such a wild idea to me that I thought it was documentation handwaving for handling XMLHttpRequest. Things like that, classes, and promises in the core of most modern runtimes, really make JS feel like a completely different language than the JScript/NS days.

Yeah JavaScript has genuinely been Fine-if-not-good-actually for almost a decade. I started my career when ES6 was on the horizon and ever since then we get new features every year, it's bonkers. And if you slap TypeScript on top of it (as you should in a 'pro' setting, IMO) it's honestly pretty alright.
