my controversial opinion is that the tales of ba sing se segment that makes me most likely to cry is tale of toph and katara. like yeah iroh big wholesome chungus his son is dead but speaking as someone who, for the first 20 years of her life was just under the assumption that beauty is totally unattainable to her, seeing toph get dragged through a self care day and finally admit that she does feel pretty for once and while she doesn't usually put much stock in outward appearances (for obvious reasons?) she was, in fact, hurt by the passing jeering comments of total strangers only for katara to double down and say that she is not only respectable as a person but she is pretty is deeply impactful to me.
