I hope I get a job in the next [checks] 23 days cause I don't want to cough up $60 for the Mac version of Scrivener, it's a separate license from windows so I can't get a free ride on the free new lappy.
I figured before the trial is over I'll toss my files into the cloud and continue working from my windows box or ancient laptop, but then that would suck and I like being in a nice quiet office with the door shut and nothing but my own boredom feeding into ideas. The old laptop is a youtube/twitch machine and anything else will make it explode for good. I'm also talking as if I'm going to be like, sane and happily writing 23 days from now without employment
I've settled on Tuesday JS to make this thing out of, it's easy enough to piece together and do what I want to insert audio and changes, since I don't need anything super fancy. I do own Tyrano and that has a lot more options for formatting and exporting to different platforms than just HTML/browser, but it is so fucking granular you have to be some kind of sadist level director to enjoy it. My rule for tools is I don't mind fighting with it, but if I'm fighting with it from the moment I start using it, it's not for me. Unfortunate to have to make this a browser thing as it is a sound novel so people will want to pause and stuff, but maybe I can see if I can work up a chapter menu and add an escape button, add more titling so people know where they're at in the story. But those are future things to worry about since I would have to record every line individually and attach it to every single bit of narration and dialogue to avoid issues
I broke up the story outline into a list of boards/chapters to make in Tuesday, so each one isn't absurdly too long. 45 boards to make in total, and I made myself a little formatting guide in Scrivener for it. Basically I will be able to write everything there and just copy + paste all the text and add the cues marked in the script into Tuesday in order, (maybe depending how much time off I have) with proper filename placeholders so when I figure out assets I can rename and drag n drop/overwrite and rebuild.
This also means I can do the whole thing piecemeal, so even if I do get a job soon, I have things to slowly hack away at instead of try and read an audiobook in single takes or something stupid
