Report of First Contact with the Yukionnan People's Union by Priestess Si-Na, 2212.8.15

Our Revered Elders have been in a confused state as to how to accept the presence of other forms of intelligent life beyond our own. Our scholars have been aware of the presence of alien beings attempting to make contact with us, but we have shied away from attempting to contact them in return - it is not the way of the Ridzazin Path to extend our reach, rather than to contemplate the nature of ourselves, and of our role in the Path.

You can imagine my surprise then, and dismay, when first contact was breached to my temple on Ridzazib. The speaker seemed as confused as us, although I can only imagine its strange form, like crystals of ice on a frozen lake, was more confusing to us than ours to them.

The speaker, who named themselves something we roughly translated as "Kn-ski," made several attempts to speak to us over the temple's holographic displays before we could muster a reply. It is apparent that this strange other being lacks any direct means of vocal communication, because as it spoke, the glow of its crystals ebbed and grew in many colors, and a high-pitched, chipper robotic voice spoke to us.

It insisted that it desired friendly terms with us, wringing its two hands with what I assume is anxiety, and was not actually a rude gesture. It apologized profusely for intercepting our communications, and then made several surprised comments about the small size of our reach among the stars.

Still taken off guard, I decided this was an appropriate lesson for our acolytes. Speaking to the voice, I explained that, as according to the Great Almanac, it is not the nature of Ridzazin people to have borders. We seek peace and cooperation in all things, no matter how each of our iwn individual Paths may differ.

This seemed to please Kn-Ski, because it replied that it agreed with this principle. I found this in contradiction to the rapidly expanding borders displayed in the map data that they sent to us, but did not say so. Kn-Ski expressed a hope that we would be close allies, and offered to extend the protection of its people if we were threatened by an outside force.

There was much murmuring among the acolytes, but I turned down the request. It is not my place - it is the place of our most revered of Elders, Elder Ma-Ku, to decide. They thanked me for my time and ended the communication.

What will occur from here on, I don't know. I turn only to the Great Almanac, which offers this wisdom:

"When the cold claws of winter cover the great lakes of Ridzazib, do not hide from the cold. Seek the warmth that one can only know from its grasp."

Blessed be the Path.

[DECLASSIFIED] Phanon Corps Threat/Use Value Assessment: "Yukionnan People's Union", Common Year 2213.

THREAT LEVEL: NONE

USE VALUE: NONE

POTENTIAL GROWTH PROBABILITY: 1%

SELF-DESTRUCTION PROBABILITY: 95%

Newly formed empire class "Yukionnan People's Republic" (hereon YPU) has shockingly pathetic military for controlling space so close to the Gaia-class planets headed by the Fallen Empire class "Universal Disciples of the Almighty Lord." (UDOTAL). Reports indicate that the YPU attempted to colonize a Gaia-class planet but were threatened and driven off before colonization could complete.

This suggests an empire incapable of intelligent decision-making. Their weak military also is contradiction to their rapid border expansion, as they continue to make claims on bordering star systems all around UDOTAL and Phanon space. No clear indicator as to their reasoning or motivations, but it is doubtful that they will continue to survive long before a larger empire consumes them, or they anger the UTODAL again.

Due to their proximity to Phanon space, observation will continue in a limited capacity.

End of report.
