Love Live breaking barriers in the gacha space by hyping the launch of Love Live! School Idol Festival 2 coming this February...and then noting that the very same game will shut down on May 31st. The Japanese version launched in April 2023 and will close in March 2024.
You couldn't even parody a more succinct illustration of how volatile the f2p mobile and gacha space is if you tried.
And even if it's still possible to play them (because of a modding community, private servers, etc), most casual players aren't gonna play them because of the small technical barrier.
I've tried to find private servers/preservation data of the old games, but the community goes around actively shutting down discussions of that nature. It's really weird- they talk like they care about the games so much, yet it seems people would rather see them become lost media than get unofficially archived.
I'm finding this pretty funny.
I guess it's not much different from non-fremium games being cancelled before release but the absurdity of "buy our product, by the way, it's doomed :3" is tickling me
we've come a long way, announcing your launch and cancellation in the same breath is finally real
rip the game that absorbed my childhood, i really liked the curved set up for the rhythm game and and the music. too bad we cant ? keep servers up ???
