my initial reaction to this was "oh this doesn't look bad" but the more i look at it the more i dislike it. it's such a good example of overly direct design, the statistical average of survival horror protagonists, that it shines a light on the whole project as just sanding down silent hill 2, removing "flaws" that don't actually exist.
he has to have stubble everywhere because he's a sad man. he can't have a wide nose and a large chin because he needs to look like every other survival horror guy. the idea that the designers in SH2 intentionally didn't give him stubble and gave him a face shape that isn't handsome doesn't cross their minds - it must have been mistakes or limitations. it's entirely as incurious as giving the game a combat engine where james does combo and epic sidestep dodges... and that's just depressing. why does this exist?
