there was a whole thing recently where people got pissy about ian flynn saying he wanted to move amy rose's character away from being sonic's stalker. like sonamy shippers flipped out over this, vitriolically.
obviously it's different people saying it now, but it is not so long ago that the most vocal sonic fan opinion was that amy being an obsessive weirdo sucked ass lmao. and like, uh... yeah it did sorry. i really don't like sonic X but there are people to whom that is still the truest version of sonic, and that's fine, but you gotta realize that the old stalker schtick never played well, right...? i think amy is essential to sonic stories but you can do so much better with the character than that.
my belief is that amy rose was obsessive with sonic because her fucking apartment and entire city got destroyed by perfect chaos and she was trying to pin down something stable in her life. she also thought sonic blew up in space once, which doesn't help. she's had some time to chill out and she's her own hedgehog now, so we can cut her some slack for being weird for a bit. maybe she still has a crush but it's messy and she's trying to unpack some other stuff. let the woman figure herself out, she's been through a lot, man.
