clays exhibit sexual dimorphism on par with the species that they mimic. however, clays can't get pregnant or lay eggs. instead, they reproduce sporadically and accidentally by sowing the earth with their blood and flesh. these offerings result in clay babies who generate spontaneously in the land, who are recovered by humans and animals and taken care of by them. claybies then grow up normally unless they are claimed by an adult clay, which results in their age being fixed at that point
