it is legitimately great that while i know there are weirdo cop-types on here trying to headhunt down Problematic Users, the fact of the matter is that this site is designed to make that hard to do and to dissuade the practice, on top of making it generally hard to run into material that you, personally, do not like.

People can (correctly, I suppose) call this a negative downside of lack of discoverability but frankly i think it's great that I never have to see a 17-year-olds dipshit opinion on porn that reads exactly like a fundamentalist screed except with "XD" at the end. i will block anyone and everyone who even talks even slightly weird on here and when i do that they functionally stop existing to me. this is a good thing

similarly can't overstate how much not having a sidebar telling me what the discourse-of-the-day is does to make using this site more pleasant. no, I actually do not need to know whenever j.k rowling said a thing, etc etc

yeah. I think a big thing that makes it hard for that to catch fire--and the main reason I'm comfortable here as a pornsmaker--is that so far there is no social benefit to doing that. Not to jinx it or anything but the most active posters here just seem unlikely to approve of it, find it entertaining, or feel pressured to spread it.

My hope is that some of the younger people who come over have a moment where they realize that this is not actually a necessary part of being online and they can just...stop.
