while I was putting the lower tray back onto its legs I pushed too hard on it and a hidden crack just... broke through, so now I'm re-glueing that before I can apply a second coat of stain to the tray and a first one on the legs (but with them attached), whoops
first platter is back on its legs, has been properly glued back together (tho oops my clamps are too small so there's still a little slit... :/ I might have to fill that in before the second layer of stain), and the stain / poly is drying for 6 hours now. then another sanding, another layer of poly, and I'll be able to attach the top platter, stain that, and then we're done!
okay, i still need to let the second layer of stain / poly dry, and wet sand that to remove bubbles... but it's visually done!! and it's aaaalmost there! hell yea
for reference, here's what the table looked like "before" (after i sanded off the thick layer of paint on the top platter, but before i took it apart and sanded the rest of it)
i know it probably doesn't look like much to people who actually do woodworking, and it took me a while and all that, but this was my first time doing any kind of work on wood and using an orbital sander and wood stain etc, and it came out looking better than it was before, plus i finally did that thing i said i'd do like a year ago, so i'm happy and proud 😊
