some thoughts on fanfiction being turned into published books

spoilers: i don't hate it lol

Mostly I just think it needs to be done right. I really don't agree with the people who believe all fanfiction is bad writing! I do agree that some fanfics-turned-books suck tho.

But the only example I personally have is my opinions about Winter's Orbit; and I'm well aware I am not in the majority when I say I wasn't a big fan of that book!

The thing is, I see the potential in that book! But the world building and the writing just feels like someone elaborating nonstop about a world they haven't even explained. Which, sure, you could probably attribute to the fact that it's been stripped of the "fan" in fanfiction. [Tho take me saying that with a grain of salt, idk what fandom the original is from and I've never read the original so I'm not sure how much was changed]

So really I think there's a big difference between books partially (or fully) rewritten to suit being original fiction, and books that were "ctrl+f"ed / find-and-replace-d

What do y'all think?
