Random thought of the day!

Watching LGR's struggle with a late 90s Canon BJC-2000 inkjet printer got me thinking: What printers did I, or we as a family, used to have?

Well, some I remember exactly, for others my memory is much more vague, let's see...

  • Commodore MPS-803 — dot-matrix printer with an optional tractor-feed attachment, we used this one mainly on the C64 under GEOS; also, fun fact, many of the old VHS tapes back at mom's place still have (now somewhat faded) labels created that way using the GeoWrite word processor in the mid-90s or so
  • Star LC-?? — I wanna say it was an LC-10, based on image searching, but can't be 100% certain; probably used either this one or the next on the Amiga 500 in the mid to late 90s
  • Epson ??-80 — again not sure, but image searching shows FX-, RX- and MX-80 models that all look vaguely familiar, mainly the three-button control panel on the right hand side, as well as the dimensions in relation to those controls
  • HP DeskJet 500 — one of my first notable roadside trash finds, probably in the late 90s, whenever I'd gotten a PC; a big, chonky inkjet boi that, from what I remember, always worked pretty well, only the paper feed might've been a bit temperamental at times
  • HP DeskJet 3?0 — probably either a 310 or 320, intended for use with laptops but used by mom on her PC; took the same ink cartridges as my DeskJet 500, I think?
  • ... a whole lotta nothing until the 2010s ... although mom has had a bunch of printers since the 2000s that I don't remember, except for three ...
  • Err, some HP multifunction combo unit — first printer/scanner I bought new for myself; wasn't great and I think something about it broke someday, too?
  • Lexmark X5650 — another multifunction device, a gift(?) from mom when she got a new Canon multifunction unit; rather temperamental at times
  • HP Color LaserJet ???? — an even bigger, chonkier boi than the DeskJet 500, and a laser printer to boot; used to belong to a friend's colleague at work, got it for free with nearly empty toner cartridges and an issue with the rollers that seem to deposit leftover toner on the page?; still sitting around here, unused, with now probably empty cartridges and still iffy rollers
  • Canon Pixma MG3650 — the aforementioned Canon that mom got; again gifted(?) to me, again multifunction, again temperamental at times, although it's manageable once you know its... quirks, shall we say; my current printer and overall not the worst
  • An Epson with separate ink tanks — mom's current printer; she specifically wanted one with separate ink tanks you manually refill with ink instead of cartriges, because she got fed up dealing with them on the Lexmark, Canon and whatever else she had before; apparently working out well for her, haven't heard any (major) complaints

And I do stand by what I said in the post I linked to regarding the Canon:

Printers are the most hateful electronic devices ever invented, and have only gotten more horrid over the last 25 years.
