so why are captchas no longer about choosing the correct answers but rather choosing what a very stupid AI would choose?

every time it's asking for something like crosswalks i have to literally just pick any image of a street or repeating bar pattern or else it tells me i failed it. there are times before i realized i was approaching it wrong where i'd have to fight with one captcha for 5 minutes before it lets me through and it made me feel fucking insane

like, i get that their whole thing is training AI and self-driving tech, but how did that turn into the robot telling ME what a crosswalk is or isn't?
