RSS is actually so incredibly useful that i'm frustrated i only started using it this year out of necessity to replace twitter as my Place To Get Updates

i noticed the RSS icon on a kijiji search and it immediately clicked that i can just have these posts sent directly to me. i now get notified the instant anyone in nova scotia makes a listing for computers/accessories, free stuff, and TVs that match the search terms CRT, tube, or PVM. i might add a few more searches for obscure games and other hardware

and like, i could have always been doing this! this was just always fucking here! but because i didn't understand what RSS was aside from "that thing that every website seemed to start pushing in like 2006 without explaining what the fuck it was" i just never bothered with it and started relying on social media to find anything related to my interests

anyway that's my monthly "use RSS" post i guess. how've you been since the last one

in reply to @xenogears's post:

fun fact if, like me, you quit using reddit because it's a horrible site but you still kind of want to read all the trashy r/AITA-type posts, every subreddit has an rss feed

i have a separate tag in my rss reader for them so they don't clog up my other feeds but i can still keep up with everyone's creative writing about relationship problems when i want a good hit of inconsequential drama
