the people who come to a brand new site expecting to have everything from their vc-funded decade-old sites are probably just not built for what cohost is offering
i don't mean that to sound gatekeepy, i'd love for this site to keep growing, but i think the idea of having to adjust to a new site and learn how it works and the culture it fosters is just completely antithetical to how a lot of people interact with social media, especially those who don't spend as much time online. you have to put effort into this, you have to be willing to learn, whereas most other sites are offering suggestions the moment you're signed up. cohost isn't designed to keep you on the site in the same way most other socials media are
lots of people have not really put thought into what these sites were like before they joined, not realizing how many features they take for granted were added years and years down the line. cohost is so incredibly new compared to the places people were using before, and where it feels like its been a long time since a new site like this popped up, i think some people either forgot or have never experienced being on a new and upcoming site
i think anyone with patience, interest in building and fostering community, and a belief in the vision of cohost will end up making a home here, and the people who just wanna post and forget about it will probably move on
and, hey, some of the people who check this place out and leave might end up coming back for good. that's what i did! i came here, didn't really get it, and left. when it was obvious twitter was really truly dying, this was the next best option, so i gave it another go and fucking love it here now
