if i keep streaming at the pace i've been going, i should finally hit under 4k followers! so excited to see that 3.9k after all these years

not even joking. i am regularly losing more followers than i'm gaining because most people only followed me for majora's mask speedrunning 10+ years ago, and i am genuinely very excited about that. i hate having an inflated follow count. i've considered making an entirely new twitch account but i don't want to lose connections to people whose only contact with me is through twitch. which isn't many people, but it's enough that i care

the only reason i'm still over 4k at this point is just that i keep having months-to-years-long periods where i don't have the energy, mental capacity, or desire to stream, and people only unfollow when they see you live and go "who the fuck"

in reply to @xenogears's post:

the only reason I ever made it over 4k was cuz early on twitch rolled out this feature where they would automatically have new signups follow accounts that streamed the games they said they were interested in. I don't remember how long that went for but it was a significant percent of my followers.
my numbers were always inflated because of that, though I especially never pay attention to my twitch follow count cuz I'm lucky to get 10 viewers on a good day

oh word, maybe that's where i ended up getting a similar count? i had no clue that was a feature of early twitch lol

ultimately i have no reason to care about my follow count, i just think it's really funny to check the number in the middle of a stream and see it slowly tick down
