REALLY LOVE how the entire party just, like... immediately Gets squall. they may not know entirely how he ended up Going Through It, but they just all have a really solid read on the guy and choose to try to understand and believe in and support and respect him no matter what, because he is their teammate and leader and friend no matter how much he tries (and fails. i think if this boy ever ended up alone and did not have something to follow and someone to guide him into having thoughts that aren't the all-consuming tragic loneliness he may well shrivel up into a corn cob) to stay distant and aloof. they are there to see something in him even when he can't quite get there

yesss he's so good, I love Squall so much. like people joke about his "whatever..." thing but, it's so absolutely devastating in context when you see all the stuff he's thinking and worrying about all the time that he buries down because he doesn't want to accept connections....

he's a Cool Guy: he looks cool, he wields the objectively coolest weapon, he's fully capable of cool shit, and there's nothing cooler than being the perfect recipient for a warm hug and a kiss on the forehead and a comfortable blanket and some guidance on how to work through your feelings
