Seriously! So far the only non-square pixel editor I've found is Glimpse. 🤯
I'm trying to! All these devs enthusiastically making "retro" filters and effects, for stuff that never existed in video games, like bokeh.
thats... odd. are they trying to do some kind of moving between foreground and back ground mechanic?
I think it's more that (1) it was something they could code and (2) "retro" is anything old, so you get "film grain", "VHS scratch lines", "chromatic aberration", "pixelation", and "compression artifacts" all lumped together in one big set. 😅
Oh my stars. 🙂 I grew up on old school wargames, which would insist on hexagons joined like this. The programming logistics are considerable, heaven bless Koei for keeping that flame alive.
