A (slowly) increasing number of friends have characters that are deities of some sort. Got me thinking, after all, why not be a god? I could have had fun with that years ago. Maybe I should look into that. The Q is do I make a new sona or just an offshoot of my current one 🤔

It can be challenging to play a deity, especially if you lean into omnipotence, because the usual problem/resolution structure of plotlines isn't available when you can handwave anything away. Some of the things I've done to compensate (for omnipotence!) is to have the character be self-limiting (restraining or hiding their abilities), have them pursue activities which don't strictly rely upon their power, have them be ignorant of their nature, or have godhood be something which occurs sometime in the future. Or maybe they're not omnipotent! maybe they're not that kind of a god <3

I recommend keeping such a character in a bottle, where most of their power comes from finding ways to subvert the expectations of their keepers. You might be surprised at how some weirdos are into that.

all who own their own power are gods unto themselves. whatever you're going to do, do it, because you were going to do it anyway. consequences are open to interpretation, glory and adulation cannot be guaranteed - but you'll find it all comes easily enough when you focus on what you want and not what you should.
