it would be nice if links in posts on this website did not open in a new tab by default.

example: someone is posting a comic. every post has a link to the first, previous, next, and last page.

expectation: you can click the links, they stay in one tab, and you can use your browser's navigation tools

reality: every page link opens in a new tab.

browsers have a billion buttons for "open in a new tab". they do not have one for "ignore what the website thinks and actually open it in this tab"1.

1: yes i am technically aware there is probably some plugin or extension or userscript or whatever2 that will override this. i do not care.

2: yes i am also aware that copying the link and pasting it into the address bar also "works"

apparently this is actually already a setting, which is news to me and the other 10 people who shared this post

that said for internal links it should still not happen, and ideally never happen. "open in new tab" is something you do if you have to care about your users staying on the site.

in reply to @xkeeper's post:

if the link's within cohost.org, chopping off the https://cohost.org bit allows the link to be clicked without opening a new tab, like so

...of course, it would be better if we didn't need to do this in the first place, as this isn't exactly common knowledge.
if you submit/find a feature request for this, then i would like it.
