dragon warrior iii for the game boy color describes me as "stubborn", and i'm tempted to agree with that assessment

is how if i tap the home button, i'm immediately greeted with my google search history.

it used to be that it would show you a feed of news; to get that, now, you have to tap an icon in the top left corner, which is remarkably difficult to do when using the phone in my right hand.

but more importantly, it means every search "matters". i use incognito for almost everything, any more, not because i resent having my history tracked (i do, somewhat), but because every search is treated equal.

i just googled a picture of tabasco hot sauce because i wanted to paste an image of the bottles onto a different image, as a joke. but to google, i'm now interested in hot sauce and want to see more of it, or even buy it. such it is with everything. sometimes i'm just using google to get a quick look at something or find a potential funny meme, and i don't intend to do anything else with that search, ever.

imagine if the dictionary kept a list of words you looked up in it, and broadcasted it in full view every time you opened it.

in reply to @xkeeper's post:

it's "google now". maybe it's what you get from swiping left, but for me (in nova launcher) it's the home button action.

it used to open to the weather, some headlines, etc. but now it defaults to search history, and it has for the last few months. i don't know why it changed, i didn't do anything, it's just yet another "we changed how things work without telling you anything". the old behavior had been like that for years.

I'm using a Pixel 2 XL that I bought a few years ago. Good phone; every other phone I've had has just failed within 2 years, so I can't complain about the longevity. I do have this new issue where if I search for an app through the search on the home page, I can't open it. Doesn't matter how many times I tap on it, it just doesn't work any more. Good bug.

my old pixel 2 xl is still sitting on my tv tray turned laptop desk. it finally started to give out on me a few months ago and i decided it was time to get a new one

part of it was i was still rocking whatever version of android came out shortly after it was released, and a bunch of google apps kept updating and breaking in strange ways, like white text on light gray (because my phone theme is dark, see, so...)

i still like it better :(

Oh, that sucks. I'm not impressed with the latest Pixels, so I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to go for next, when this becomes unusable. Maybe back to LG, if they haven't followed along like everything else and put some dumbass notch on the screen
