twice now google has shown me these extremely obvious "spam websites", that are designed around these "web stories". the website never makes sense for the context, and if you go to it, it's always, inevitably, a default-setup wordpress (complete with the only "post" on the site being the hello, world one) with endless sludge posted to the "web-stories" section
what gets me about this is like... why. any human could look at this and instantly know it's garbage; from the typo in the title (it really did replace the ' with a space), to the hundreds of unassociated, unlinked posts, to the fact it's on a domain that has nothing to do with anything
it feels like the latest trend is buying websites that have expired domains and throwing this sort of spam-nexus-generator onto it, and by all accounts it seems to work if google keeps showing them to us
starting to feel increasingly like the internet is going to be small islands of known-safe websites and communities with an outer wild of nothing but sludge (and people are all too happy to bring sludge into those spaces as it is...)
here's another one in the feed today. it's trivial to see that the website looks just like the other ones, is filled with the same web-story sludge (all generated in the last week), and the about page looks like it's ai generated; Google claims that it's for a youth baseball team, the site's about page claims it's all about the music genre.
it's cool how this shit just keeps showing up more and more every day. no amount of reporting or hiding it will do anything because nobody cares.
