The research wasn't too bad, especially considering that The Cutting Room Floor basically does the research for me.

my man your entire video is literally recording yourself reading the article verbatim (sans a rare changed word or phrase) and snipping screenshots of everything from it

i don't want to go on a crusade against people like this but come the fuck on. you did literally zero work beyond reading words other people already wrote

@xkeeper

i play their video side-by-side while i scroll through the wiki and highlight the shit they are reading off of in real time. you can even follow along!

also you get to see that he just outright stole other people's videos too and blurred the text on them so he could put his own shit on it. it's great!

@xkeeper

someone pointed out that he posted a screenshot of his video editor for when he was (presumably) making the smw video.

here's a little enhancement of the photo:

you can make out a bunch of "yt5s", also known as a youtube video downloader tool. guess who was gearing up to steal more videos! don't worry guys your username gets a link in the description :)

also the "longplay" stuff; you realize you could just play the fuckin game, right? like you could open the game and play it for an hour or whatever and record your own footage?

anyway he also posted about his plagiarism, emphasis mine:

Okay, I definitely fucked up. I didn’t realize that this was as big of a problem as it was on YouTube, but yes, I used The Cutting Room Floor page as a heavy backbone for the script for my newest vid. I should’ve given far more gratitude and credit in the video itself to the writers and the people who actually make these videos possible, and I don’t want to be known as a guy who just plagiarizes my writing. I did this with the Super Mario 64 video, and I just didn’t see anything wrong with it since I felt that the video was transformative enough. You can form your own opinion about whether or not the Mario World & Mario 64 vids are transformative enough, but I can say for certain that in the future, the right people will get the proper credit they deserve.

I also want to point out that I’ve never had intentions of the unused videos being original, and I’ve never claimed to have had 100% original scripts for these. I’m very open about where I get my sources from, but this is definitely something that I will take into consideration in the future.

my man what did you transform. what did you add to this other than your voice. what did you do other than take a bunch of shit other people made and poorly glue it together.

how can you claim you are, quote, "very open about where you get your sources from", when THEY'RE JUST FUCKING USERNAME LINKS IN YOUR VIDEO, NOT EVEN THE ACTUAL FUCKING VIDEOS, AND YOU FUCKING REMOVED TEXT FROM ONE OF THEM

The particular phrasing of "the research wasn't too bad" also raises an eyebrow. I thought people do this kind of stuff (whatever it may be) because the research is fun... At least, it's fun to me... The research is the point... "Wasn't too bad?" What does "bad" look like?

the research was too bad. i had to go to the second page of google results, and open one link on the wayback machine. dear viewers, i have suffered deeply for your entertainment. remember to subscribe, obliterate that like button, and hammer so hard on that bell that it breaks your mouse; really helps the channel out. with all that out of the way, let's get started.

webster's dictionary defines Luigi Mario as-

throwback to me watching another video essay by another guy on search for the original of the skull trumpet and it took the guy like 2/3thsway into the video to actually try to contact the youtube op (who is fairly notable and active on other sites)

lately it seems more and more of his videos are just "check out what I saw on the cutting room floor" like, to be fair he at least is up front that most of the discoveries come from there, but it's like it's just losing interest in trying to find stuff himself

I know for a fact he had a Mario Sunshine episode that was just TCRF regional differences, and more recently he had one about Kirby games (in general) that was the same, not sure how many others he's had now as I don't really watch his content anymore

it really just seems like he's going "I don't have a lot of time this week" and/or "I don't want to put the effort" so he just makes a video about a TCRF article and uses it as a chance to shoehorn his sponsor into the middle of the content without warning, which honestly just feels scummy to me for multiple reasons (and is part of why I dont watch him much anymore)

in reply to @xkeeper's post:

The bit that's burning my crumpets at the moment is where he cut the word "likely" from the TCRF text when copy-pasting it into his script. That's signalling speculation on the part of the author, and he's converted it into a confident assertion complete with conspiracy-theorist emphasis on "intentionally".

I also love how he says "Crazy Box" with the emphasis on "box" - that is, he's saying "crazy box" (a box that is crazy) rather than "Crazy Box", the object in Super Mario 64. Almost like he doesn't actually know Super Mario 64 all that well and is just making videos about it because he thinks they'll get attention.

Is it bad that I'd probably be up for listening to someone read and react to TCRF articles, if only it was actually labeled as such (idk, "Let's Read TCRF!")?
Voices can definitely make something feel nicer, but that doesn't require pretending you did original research.

in reply to @xkeeper's post:

Slight correction here: you've always been able to left-align the titlebar in Windows 11, even before it was released to the public. Personally, I would not give him a pass on this one.

I hate poputubers so, so much. I’m still not over DYKG yoinking gameplay footage from me without asking or informing me and refusing to link my channel because “there woulds be too many links” (their solution was to put my name in the corner of the 5-10 secs of Donkey Kong Arcade footage they stole which just led to people thinking I gave them permission?)

I ended up pushing hard to get at least a YT card to my own channel’s biggest retrospective vid at the time up added to the video, which they did, but months later and despite the vid getting hundreds of thousands of views less than double digits amount of people clicked my youtube card >:( I felt duped to say the least

this is almost funny. it's just also terrible. Carnival Night is the right music for this absolute fucking entire circus of a youtuber this is just a shoddily disguised article read absent the fucking sourcing and including a bunch of videos that ABSOLUTELY aren't properly permissioned

I feel the Carnival Night music at the start in your video really enhances the experience.

For real though, this kind of stuff is so infuriating. I thought stealing all that stuff from TCRF was bad enough without crediting the people who found it but as the video goes on it just gets worse, all that stolen video footage on top of that and not even linking the proper videos is just galling. I've had stuff I researched nicked by YouTubers before (including one who blamed it on their editor, lol) but that's a lot smaller than this. Whoof.

(By the way, the bit with the diagram of the mystery Goomba was indeed stolen from one of Pancake's videos, it was the one where the mystery was solved)

"editor", reminds me of the people who got banned and immediately go "duhhhh it was my brother"

reading the comments on the original video, the smw one, and his channel page is even more infuriating. just empty apologies while his fans go "its ok it wasnt really a plagiarism" and everyone ignores all the videos he ripped
