A big mystery that has been bugging me occasionally lately: is y2k rock a real thing that is materializing in the air with contemporary bands in their 30s reclaiming the sounds of the late '90s, or is it only happening in my head due to my own nostalgia and personal memories? I'm definitely lacking knowledge of Western pop-rock / alternative pop music of that time, so I just can't connect the dots.

Nevertheless, I really want to share these songs that kinda feel like they have some common trend going on, and maybe someone here would agree or disagree and maybe even share some knowledge with me πŸ™

I definitely agree about music and fashion being cyclical! And I think it's often beautiful when younger generations start reclaiming and reinventing things from the previous generations. I feel like even nu metal could be reinvented into something great nowadays, if it is in the right hands!

What I'm trying to figure out with the songs above, I guess, is if there's a particular layer of the late '90's / early '00's music that people are riffing on, because usually it's pop-punk or alt-rock of that period of time, but here it's something different...

Love this stuff. Maybe these are drawing on alt pop songs...

"Singing for You" made me think particularly of Feeder's "High", similar vibe and same chord progression (I-IV-ii-IV).

"This Enchanted" gives me Donna Lewis "I Love You Always Forever" vibes (which by the way was beautifully interpolated by Lennon Stella in "Save Us"). But also mashed up with something like Real McCoy's "Another Night"?
