y'all, already falling down the rabbit hole researching this.....i think neopets started the death spiral into daily quest design we see today...fucking neopets..and there's a direct link from its immersive advertising techniques to the monopolization of time spurred by capitalism

As someone currently playing Neopets, the daily quests are a good thing. (But I also get not liking the idea of daily log in rewards lol) The new owners introduced it as a way to award retired/hard to acquire items, and the game's economy is benefitting from it pretty well. Inflation has been really on Neopets and that is actually its own rabbit hole itself if you are interested in researching it.
